fact is we ask lots of questions about digital book at the border in Brest, including the rights of "reader":
The E-Book User's Bill of Rights
Every eBook user should have the following rights:
1) The right to use eBooks under guidelines that favor access over proprietary limitations.
2) The right to access eBooks on any technological platform, including the hardware and software the user chooses.
3) The right to annotate, quote passages, print, and share eBook content within the spirit of fair use and copyright.
4) Tthe right of The First-sale doctrine extended to digital content, Allowing The eBook owner The Right to retain, archive, share, and re-sell Purchased eBooks.
Point 2 is primarily a question of money, so the price of digital books will suffer. I had a little discussion with Michalon (Epagine) versions for iPhone-iPad example. Difficult to imagine a player gaining iPad version without the benefit of reading on the iPhone in another context, without paying twice obviously.
But the author may also consider not having to be present on equipment devaluing their work. A multimedia approach on the Kindle (electronic book) is impossible, therefore exit.
For item 4 I do not know the elements of the "doctrine" referred to, but at first glance that this complicated case.
